Jax & Hayden Quinn On Their Ocean-inspired Wedding Bands & Their Elevated Coastal Ceremony

Nearly eight years after serendipitously crossing paths at New York’s Cafe Select, Australian Masterchef alumni, Hayden Quinn, and This Is Nice co-founder, Jax Raynor, tied the knot with an elevated wedding celebration on Massachusett’s coast.

Having each spent their formative years by the ocean, Jax by Nantucket’s Galley Beach and Hayden across Sydney’s Northern Beaches, it was only fitting that they exchanged their vows with bespoke wedding bands from SARAH & SEBASTIAN. “We had our ceremony on the sand, I was barefoot in my very fancy wedding dress. I couldn’t think of a better jewellery brand to compliment our day than Sarah & Sebastian,” muses Jax.

Dressed in Oscar de la Renta tulle and adorned with our Diamond Corridor Earrings with natural pear diamonds, Jax opted for our Ocean Pear Diamond Ring in platinum as her wedding band of choice. Hayden sported a sleek Hugo Boss number and selected our classic Level III Brush Wedding Band in 18-karat yellow gold as his. In conversation with the newlyweds, we charted their love story and uncovered why they chose SARAH & SEBASTIAN to celebrate their union.

SARAH & SEBASTIAN: What is it about SARAH & SEBASTIAN that resonates with you and what made you choose us for your wedding bands?
JAX: The ocean being a huge inspiration behind so many of Sarah & Sebastian’s designs has kept me coming back to the brand time and time again. We both grew up by the ocean, me on a small island in America called Nantucket and Hayden on Sydney’s Northern Beaches. Hayden even studied Marine Biology at University, so the ocean has always been a very big part of our lives.

HAYDEN: I have been a long-time enthusiast of all things Sarah & Sebastian, so when it came time to choosing where to get our wedding bands, it was at the top of our list. Our wedding bands are easily the most special pieces of jewellery we will ever wear, so it was important to us that they came from a brand that we both love.

SARAH & SEBASTIAN: Tell us about your incredible wedding celebration – how did your selected Sarah & Sebastian pieces to complement your special day?
JAX: We got married at a restaurant on the beach I grew up going to in Nantucket. We had our ceremony on the sand, I was barefoot in my very fancy wedding dress as we exchanged our vows and wedding bands. I couldn’t think of a better jewellery brand to compliment our day than Sarah & Sebastian. The pieces we wore felt so like us and, of course, since we celebrated by the ocean, it made perfect sense to wear pieces that were inspired by our dreamy setting.

On our wedding day, I wore the Diamond Corridor Earrings in white gold with an extra single Pear Suspense Earring. I had been searching for some pieces like this for over a year and when I saw Sarah Munro (Sarah & Sebastian’s co-founder and creative director) wearing them at an event a few weeks before our big day, I knew they were perfect. They are so different from any other earrings I’ve seen and they complimented my wedding dress so well.

SARAH & SEBASTIAN: How did you decide on the perfect pieces to reflect your union and what was the wedding consultation like?
HAYDEN: Choosing our wedding bands was surprisingly easy. I can be a little indecisive and often put too much pressure on myself to make the right choices, especially when it comes to investment pieces and something I will wear every day for years to come. However, as soon as I tried on my wedding band, I knew I had found the one.

JAX: It was so important to both of us that our wedding bands were pieces that we could wear every day. I chose platinum for my wedding band as it’s the same material that was used for my engagement ring and for its durability. Similarly, Hayden chose 18-karat gold for his band as it would hold up best against his busy lifestyle.

Everyone we worked with was so helpful and patient as we tried on ring after ring. Ultimately, we both chose rings that suited our personal style, which I would describe as classic with a twist.

SARAH & SEBASTIAN: Jax, what inspired you to choose the Ocean Pear Diamond Ring?
JAX: Once I tried on this amazing piece, there was no doubt in my mind that it was the perfect ring for me. Due to the design of my multi-diamond emerald-cut engagement ring, I found that most traditionally shaped wedding bands clashed and didn’t sit well together.

The Ocean Pear Diamond Ring could not fit more perfectly beside my engagement ring and I even feel as though they were specifically designed to be worn together. I could not be happier with how it looks. Hayden even joked on our wedding day that I was most excited to get married because I love my wedding band so much!

SARAH & SEBASTIAN: Hayden, what drew you to the Level III Brush Wedding Band? HAYDEN: The brushed style always stood out for me. I thought it looked a little more rugged, which suits my lifestyle. I work with my hands a lot, so I knew that the ring had to be durable, and a shiny finish just wasn't for me.

I also love that gold is a natural material and the fact that the surface of the ring will evolve with subtle physical characteristics from wear over time is something that I love. I also wear lots of copper, brass and gold bangles on my left wrist (including a Sarah & Sebastian permanent Soldered bracelet and a gold Lock Cord Bracelet) so I feel the gold works nicely in combination with these other jewellery tones.

SARAH & SEBASTIAN: Do you have any memorable moments or anecdotes from working with us that you’d like to share?
JAX: I think my favourite part of working with Sarah & Sebastian as a whole is how friendly and amazing every team has been throughout this entire process. Choosing your wedding band is such a huge investment, both emotionally and financially, and the entire team could not have been more helpful.

Even the other day, I stopped by one of the stores and a few of the girls remembered me from our appointments; they were so excited to see how my wedding band looked in real life and to ask how the day went. It felt so special that they were just as excited to see my wedding band as I was to show it to them!
