Pearls are inherently sensitive. We recommend always putting them on last and removing them first. Handle your pieces gently, avoiding knocks or impact, as this may chip the nacre or loosen the setting. If you notice a pearl feels loose, discontinue wear and contact our Customer Care team or visit a SARAH & SEBASTIAN store for assessment and repair.
STORAGE AND SAFE KEEPING
When not worn, store pearls individually in a soft pouch to prevent contact with harder gemstones or metals. Place them in a cool, dry environment away from direct sunlight and heat, which may cause the nacre to become compromised over time.
WHAT TO AVOID
Chemicals can dull a pearl’s natural lustre. Avoid contact with acidic products such as fake tan, perfume, hairspray and cosmetics. Remove pearls before exercising, swimming or bathing, and never place them in an ultrasonic cleaner.
CLEANING YOUR PEARLS
Do not use treated polishing cloths. After each wear, gently wipe pearls with a dry microfiber cloth to remove oils and perspiration. For a deeper clean, use a slightly damp cloth and ensure the pearls are completely dry before storing
OUR COMMITMENT
To support the longevity of your pearls, we offer a two-year warranty from the date of purchase. In addition, we provide a complimentary restringing service on the Overtone Pearl Necklace and Bracelet within 12 months of purchase. This service is designed to ensure your strand remains secure and comfortable to wear for years to come.
Opals and gemstones are precious and delicate. Fine settings that hold your stone can be affected by everyday wear. Its important to keep your piece safe to decrease the risk of gemstone loss. Handle your jewellery gently and avoid impact wherever possible. If you notice a stone feels loose, discontinue wear immediately and contact our Customer Care team or visit a SARAH & SEBASTIAN store for assessment.
STORAGE AND SAFE KEEPING
When not worn, store your jewellery individually in a soft pouch or jewellery box to prevent gemstones and metals from scratching each other. Keep your pieces in a cool, dry environment away from prolonged sunlight and heat, which can affect the integrity of certain stones, particularly opals.
WHAT TO AVOID
You should avoid exposing your jewellery to bleach, household cleaners, perfumes, hairspray, and cosmetics, as these substances can damage both gemstones and metals. It is also important to remove your jewellery before swimming, bathing, or exposing it to extreme heat, as this may compromise the integrity of certain stones. Ultrasonic cleaners should never be used, because the intense vibrations can crack delicate gemstones, particularly opals.
CLEANING YOUR GEMSTONES
To clean your gemstones, gently wipe each piece with a soft cloth dampened with warm water and a mild detergent. After cleaning, ensure the jewellery is thoroughly dry before storing it. Avoid using abrasive cloths or chemical cleaners, as these can damage the surface and natural beauty of the stones.
OUR COMMITMENT
To support the longevity of your jewellery, we offer a 24-month warranty from the date of purchase. If any stones or settings require attention, our team will assess and repair your piece to ensure it remains secure and beautiful for years to come.
Emeralds are considered rather durable, but their natural inclusions make them more brittle than other coloured gemstones, and they can chip if handled roughly. We recommend wearing your emerald jewellery with care and removing it before bathing, swimming, or engaging in rigorous activities to maintain its glow and lustre.
STORAGE AND SAFE KEEPING
Store your emerald pieces individually in a soft pouch or jewellery box to prevent contact with harder metals or gemstones. Keep them in a cool, dry environment away from prolonged sunlight and heat to preserve their colour and integrity.
WHAT TO AVOID
Avoid exposing your emeralds to bleach, harsh chemicals, or household cleaners, as these can damage the stone and its setting. Do not use ultrasonic cleaners, as the intense vibrations may cause cracking. Remove your jewellery during activities where impact may occur to prevent chips or loosening of the setting.
CLEANING YOUR EMERALDS
To clean your emeralds, gently wipe them with a soft cloth using warm water and mild soap. After cleaning, ensure the pieces are thoroughly dry before storing. Avoid abrasive cloths or chemical cleaners, as these may compromise the surface and natural beauty of the stones.
OUR COMMITMENT
We offer a 24-month warranty from the date of purchase. Our team is available to assess and repair any issues with stones or settings, ensuring your emerald jewellery remains secure, radiant, and beautiful for years to come.
While diamonds are durable and resist scratching (except by other diamonds), they are not indestructible. Wear your jewellery carefully, as strong impact can chip a diamond, loosen its setting, or otherwise cause damage. Handle pieces gently and avoid situations where they may be struck. If a diamond feels loose or the setting is compromised, discontinue wear and contact our Customer Care team or visit a SARAH & SEBASTIAN store for assessment and repair.
STORAGE AND SAFE KEEPING
Store your diamond jewellery individually in its original packaging or a soft pouch to prevent scratches. Keep pieces in a cool, dry environment away from prolonged sunlight and heat to preserve their brilliance and structural integrity.
WHAT TO AVOID
Avoid exposing your diamonds to harsh chemicals such as bleach, household cleaners, perfumes, hairspray, and cosmetics, as these can compromise the metal setting or reduce the sparkle of the stones. Remove your jewellery before swimming, bathing, or activities where strong impact may occur. Contact with other diamonds or hard surfaces can cause chips or loosen settings over time.
CLEANING YOUR DIAMONDS
Gently wipe your diamonds with a lint-free cloth, or clean with warm water, mild soap, and a soft toothbrush. Ensure pieces are completely dry before storing. Periodic professional cleaning at our SARAH & SEBASTIAN workshop is recommended to maintain the setting and sparkle.
OUR COMMITMENT
We offer a 24-month warranty from the date of purchase. Our team is available to assess and repair any issues with stones or settings, ensuring your diamonds remain secure, radiant, and beautiful for years to come.
METALS
Our gold jewellery is crafted from 10, 14, or 18 karat solid gold, combining pure 24 karat gold with carefully balanced alloys for strength and beauty. Platinum is valued for its natural strength and enduring finish.
Gentle signs of wear are a natural part of your jewellery’s story. Handle your pieces with care and avoid impact or contact with hard surfaces. If you notice bending, loose settings, or damage, discontinue wear and contact our Customer Care team or visit a SARAH & SEBASTIAN store for assessment.
STORAGE AND SAFE KEEPING
Store your jewellery separately in a soft pouch or jewellery box to prevent scratches and contact with other pieces. Keep it in a cool, dry environment away from prolonged sunlight and heat to maintain its finish and brilliance.
WHAT TO AVOID
Avoid exposure to chlorine and harsh chemicals, particularly for 10 karat gold, as these can weaken alloys such as copper and silver. While platinum is more resilient, it should also be protected from chemicals and impact. Remove your jewellery before swimming, bathing, or activities where pressure or impact may occur.
CLEANING YOUR GOLD & PLATINUM
To restore shine, soak your jewellery in warm soapy water, dry with a soft cloth, or gently polish with a jewellery cloth. Ultrasonic cleaning can be used for a deeper clean, however this is not recommended for pieces with delicate gemstones. Avoid abrasive cleaners that may scratch or dull the surface.
OUR COMMITMENT
We offer a 24-month warranty from the date of purchase. Our team is available to assess and repair any issues, ensuring your gold jewellery remains secure, luminous, and treasured for years to come.
Sterling silver is a material that naturally evolves over time. Its finish will gently change depending on your unique skin chemistry, how often you wear it, and how it is stored. The beauty of silver is that it loves to be worn, and your skin’s natural oils can even help slow tarnishing and keep your jewellery glowing. With regular wear and a little attention, your silver pieces can remain luminous and cherished for years to come.
STORAGE AND SAFE KEEPING
When not worn, store your silver jewellery in a soft pouch or jewellery box to prevent scratches and contact with harder metals or gemstones. Keeping your pieces in a cool, dry environment away from prolonged sunlight and heat will help maintain its finish.
WHAT TO AVOID
Avoid exposing your silver to chlorine or harsh chemicals, such as those found in swimming pools, hot tubs, and household cleaning products. Contact with these substances can weaken the metal, making it brittle and more prone to breakage. General wear and tear, including tarnishing, fine surface scratches, dullness, or minor colour changes, are a natural part of silver jewellery’s evolution and are expected over time. These changes are not covered under our 24-month warranty.
CLEANING YOUR SILVER
To remove any tarnish, use a specially formulated Silver Dip or gently rub your piece with a soft Silver Cloth, which will instantly restore its brilliance and shine. You are also welcome to bring your jewellery into a SARAH & SEBASTIAN store for a professional polish. Avoid using abrasive cleaners or cloths, as these can compromise the surface of the silver.
OUR COMMITMENT
To support the longevity of your silver jewellery, we offer a 24-month warranty from the date of purchase. While natural changes in colour, light tarnish, and minor surface wear are expected over time, our team is always available to assess and professionally polish your pieces to ensure they remain secure and beautiful for years to come.
NECKLACES & BRACELETS
Woven from links as fine as thread, our signature fine chains are delicate and require careful handling to avoid snagging, stretching, or accidental damage. Handle your chains gently and avoid situations where they may become caught or pulled.
STORAGE AND SAFE KEEPING
When not worn, store your fine chains laying flat in a soft pouch or jewellery box to prevent tangling or contact with other pieces. Keeping them in a cool, dry environment away from prolonged sunlight and heat will help maintain their strength and appearance.
WHAT TO AVOID
For 10 karat gold chains, avoid contact with chlorine or harsh chemicals, which are commonly found in swimming pools, hot tubs, and household cleaning products. Because 10 karat gold contains alloys such as copper and silver, exposure to these substances can weaken the metal, making it brittle and prone to breakage. Remove your chain before swimming, bathing, or activities where impact may occur. While 14 and 18 karat chains are more resistant to breakage, it is important to take the same level of care when handling and wearing these chains.
CLEANING YOUR FINE CHAINS
Gently wipe your chain with a soft cloth to remove oils or dirt. For a deeper clean, soak in warm soapy water and dry carefully before storing. Avoid abrasive cleaners or polishing methods that could damage the delicate links.
OUR COMMITMENT
For our 14 and 18 karat gold fine chains, we offer a 24-month warranty from the date of purchase. Our team is available to assess and repair any issues, ensuring your fine chains remain secure, luminous, and beautiful for years to come.
To clean your chain at home, combine a mild liquid soap with warm water in a container and soak your chain for several minutes. Gently rub it along its entire length using a soft cloth or a very soft-bristled toothbrush. Rinse thoroughly with clean water and pat dry.
For a deeper clean, an ultrasonic machine can be used safely at home, as it emits high-frequency sound waves to remove debris from the links. Alternatively, you can bring your chain into a SARAH & SEBASTIAN store for a professional refresh.
If your chain is soldered and requires cleaning, please book an aftercare appointment. Our solderer can safely remove, clean, and resolder the chain to ensure it remains secure and flawless.
The most common cause of breakage in fine chain necklaces and bracelets is stretching. As our chains are made from solid gold and silver, which are malleable, they can stretch from everyday wear or if caught on objects. It is worthwhile to check your chain periodically, as a compromised chain can lead to breakage and potential loss.
To check, measure the entire length of your chain, including jump rings and clasp, and compare it to the original length on your order confirmation. Jump rings that are no longer perfect circles are also a sign of stress and stretching. If your chain shows any signs of stretching, lodge a repair request, and your piece can be professionally assessed.
For 10k gold chains, avoid contact with chlorine or harsh chemicals found in swimming pools, hot tubs, and household cleaning products. Exposure can weaken the metal, particularly alloys like copper and silver, making it brittle and prone to breakage.
If your chain becomes knotted, untangle it as soon as possible to prevent stretching.
We recommend using two pins on a flat, hard surface, starting in the middle of the knot to gently loosen the chain. As gaps appear, carefully manoeuvre your pins away from the tightest point to release the tangle. Take care not to apply too much force, as the links are delicate and can break if handled roughly.
Our fine clasps can be sensitive to pressure, and over time, their mechanical springs may become compromised. If needed, a clasp replacement can be provided to ensure your jewellery remains secure.
For 10k gold jewellery, avoid contact with chlorine or harsh chemicals found in swimming pools, hot tubs, and household cleaning products. Because 10k gold contains alloys such as copper and silver, exposure can weaken the metal, making it brittle and prone to breakage.
WEARING YOUR LEATHER BRACELET
Our leather bracelets are crafted from 100% soft Italian calf leather with a leather lining, paired with vermeil hardware. Being a natural product, each piece will have small variations and a tolerance of up to 3mm in length. Leather will naturally develop a patina over time, darkening with use, which is a characteristic of its natural beauty. Handle your bracelet gently and remove it during sleep or physical activity to preserve its shape and finish.
STORAGE AND SAFE KEEPING
Store your leather bracelet in a cool, dry place, away from prolonged sunlight or humidity. Keep it in a soft pouch or jewellery box to protect it from contact with harder objects that could mark or damage the leather.
WHAT TO AVOID
Leather is not designed to be worn in water. Avoid swimming, bathing, saunas, or exposure to the sea. Keep your bracelet away from oils, perfumes, creams, or cosmetics, and avoid prolonged direct sunlight.
CLEANING AND MAINTENANCE
After each wear, gently wipe the bracelet with a dry, soft cloth to remove dirt. Apply a leather conditioner periodically to maintain softness and suppleness.
EARRINGS
Our butterfly earring backings are designed with delicate spring discs that hold the earring post securely while ensuring a comfortable fit.
STORAGE AND SAFE KEEPING
When not worn, store your earrings in a soft pouch or jewellery box to prevent contact with other pieces and help maintain the shape of the backing.
WHAT TO AVOID
If the tension of the discs loosens, the backing may slip. To restore its grip, gently pinch the contact point of the butterfly backing. Replace any backing that has lost its shape. Please note that sizes vary depending on the earring style and material, and replacement backings are available through our store or online here.
Our internally threaded earrings feature a delicate thread that secures the front pendant into the hollow backing post, ensuring a comfortable and secure fit. Unlike regular lobe earrings, cartilage earrings go on backing-first. The threaded back is pushed through the piercing hole from the back of the ear and the earring is then spun on tightly from the front to secure.
STORAGE AND SAFE KEEPING
When not worn, store your earrings individually in a soft pouch or jewellery box to prevent contact with other pieces and protect the delicate thread. Keeping them in a cool, dry environment will help maintain their condition.
WHAT TO AVOID
Over time, the threaded closure may loosen through everyday wear, so we recommend occasionally checking your earrings and gently tightening them clockwise. Avoid pressing the earring together, as this can dislodge the thread from its channel and compromise the piece’s integrity.
To preserve the longevity of your fine hoops, handle them with care. Gently open each side just enough to insert the earring through the ear, then click the ends back into place. Using a mirror or asking for assistance can make this easier.
STORAGE AND SAFE KEEPING
When not worn, store your fine hoops separately in a soft pouch or jewellery box to prevent scratches and protect the delicate hinge. Keeping them in a cool, dry environment will help maintain their shape and finish.
WHAT TO AVOID
Avoid opening the hoop past its closure or twisting it sideways, as this can damage the delicate hinge. Opening the hoop too wide may loosen the mechanism or cause it to break, so only open it as much as necessary when putting it on or removing it.
RINGS
Our fine rings are crafted from precious metal wire and require extra care when worn. Significant pressure can bend the wire or cause it to break, so handle your ring gently and avoid situations where it may be caught or twisted.
STORAGE AND SAFE KEEPING
When not worn, store your wire ring separately in a soft pouch or jewellery box to prevent contact with harder metals or gemstones. Keeping your ring in a cool, dry environment will help maintain its shape and finish.
WHAT TO AVOID
Avoid subjecting your wire ring to pressure, such as lifting, manual labour, or wearing it at the gym, as this can bend or distort the wire. It is also best to remove your ring during activities where it may be knocked, caught, or exposed to unnecessary force.
Engagement rings are designed to be worn every day, but we recommend handling them with care to protect the stone and setting. If your ring features a claw setting, it is important to have the setting checked regularly to ensure the stone remains secure.
STORAGE AND SAFE KEEPING
When not worn, store your engagement ring separately in a soft pouch or jewellery box to prevent contact with other jewellery. Keeping your ring in a cool, dry environment will help maintain its brilliance and condition.
WHAT TO AVOID
Remove your ring during activities where it may be subjected to strong impact or pressure, such as exercise, manual labour, or heavy lifting, as this may compromise the setting over time.
CLEANING YOUR ENGAGEMENT RING
Feel free to visit any SARAH & SEBASTIAN store for a complimentary clean of your engagement ring. At home, you can gently clean your ring using warm soapy water and a soft toothbrush, then dry and polish it with a soft cloth. For ongoing care, a jewellery polishing cloth or ultrasonic cleaning machine can also be used.
PROFESSIONAL CARE
For rings with claw settings, we recommend visiting one of our stores at least every six months to have the setting professionally checked and ensure the stone remains secure.
REPAIR & REFURBISHMENT
At SARAH & SEBASTIAN, we care for your jewellery throughout its life. Our workshop can repair or refurbish most pieces purchased directly from us, helping to restore their beauty and longevity whenever possible.
You can arrange a repair or refurbishment through our returns portal or by visiting one of our stores, where our team will assess your piece and provide the best possible care.
Every SARAH & SEBASTIAN piece comes with a limited warranty, in addition to your rights under Australian Consumer Law, covering any major manufacturing faults.
Please note that jewellery may also be affected by natural wear and tear, particularly if care instructions are not followed. Damage resulting from wear and tear is not covered under warranty, and a repair fee may apply if this is the case.
Discover the full details of your warranty and your rights under Australian Consumer Law here.
Tarnishing is a natural process in which metals gently react with oxygen, developing a subtle warm tone on the surface. This is an inherent characteristic of all metals over time and is not considered a manufacturing fault, and therefore is not covered under warranty.
The rate at which tarnish develops can be influenced by exposure to oils, acidity, and chemicals such as perfumes, moisturisers, sunscreen, and salt water. Because each person’s skin chemistry is unique, some may notice tarnishing more quickly than others.
With mindful care, such as lightly cleaning your jewellery after wear and polishing with a soft cloth; your pieces will retain their brilliance and continue to delight for years to come.
